Welcome to BVU

A Global Community

Buena Vista University has welcomed students from around the world since our founding in 1891. Today our international students bring perspectives from dozens of countries to a campus of roughly 1,900 students, where an average class size of fewer than 20 means your voice is heard and your professors know your name.

From your first email to our admissions team to the day you walk across the stage, you are supported by people whose job is to help you succeed. We will help you understand requirements, plan your finances, and feel at home on the shores of Storm Lake long before you arrive.

The Application Process

Applying as an international student is straightforward. Our team reviews each application individually and will let you know exactly what we need at every stage. Most students complete the following three steps.

Academic Records

Submit official secondary school transcripts and any post-secondary records. Documents in a language other than English should include a certified English translation. We can advise on credential evaluation when transfer credit is involved.

English Proficiency

Demonstrate readiness for university coursework with a TOEFL, IELTS, or Duolingo English Test score, or another accepted measure. If English is your first language or you have studied in English, this requirement may be waived.

Financial Documentation

Provide a bank statement or affidavit of support confirming the funds available for your studies. This documentation is required before we can issue immigration paperwork and is reviewed confidentially by our team.

I-20 & Visa Support

From Offer To Arrival

Once you are admitted and your financial documentation is verified, our Designated School Official issues your Form I-20 so you can apply for an F-1 student visa. We walk you through paying the SEVIS fee, preparing for your visa interview, and timing your travel to Storm Lake.

After you arrive, our international advisors keep you in good standing, help with employment authorization questions, and are your first point of contact for anything immigration-related throughout your time at BVU.

Affordability

Scholarships & Aid
